Just One Ripple

By Miranda Browning

Being new to the work of anti-trafficking has been and will continue to be a learning experience. As someone who is fueled by a desire for justice in the here and now, it wasn’t a far leap to want to jump in and help wherever I fit in.

Where would that be and what would it look like? It would look like asking lots of questions and always being open to direction and correction. Approaching relationships with humility. It would be fitting in where I’m needed. Not always on the front lines but as a support for those who are.

In my story there is a common theme: wanting to be seen and loved by those in my life. This fuels my passion for helping others to be seen and loved. That’s why I believe so deeply in what our organization is doing. We are small – serving clients one on one through story work coaching. Keeping retreats intimate and intentional serving two clients per retreat. Do other organizations do well serving the masses? Sure, they do. But we believe that to really see change there has to be change in the individual. One individual’s healing can become a catalyst of healing in their own community.

There is a beautiful quote by Robert Kennedy that says “each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”

That is what I strive to be. What this organization strives to be. A ripple of hope striking out against injustice.
